Day 11 - Tue Dec 30, 2008
New Orleans , LA to Burass, LA and back - 168 mi
Headed south from New Orleans to check out the river delta. That's also where Hurricane Katrina first came ashore. A lot of the view was obscured by a big berm. At the very end of the road where the marina is was a sign for the Southernmost Point in Louisiana.
On the way back I went by Fort Jackson and explored around. The building by the football field was still storm damaged. Some of the walls had caved in, the roof collapsed. A very unsafe area, I'm surprised they let these structures stay standing.
The fort itself is closed to the public, but it was neat walking around the star pattern of it, designed so that the cannons could cover each other. It had rained heavily there the day before, so the moat was extra high.
