November 14, 2009: Harry is Dangerous

Everything here is the best depiction of the events that I can put together, but it should be taken as my opinion, not as fact. -- Kallahar Harry Ahn being questioned by police April 21, 2007: Shopwarming Harry seemed like a good match for the shop, so he was one of the first people to agree to pay rent there. We knew he was a bit socially maladjusted, but most geeks are like that. We though that if we gave him some good examples to follow then he would get some more experience interacting with people and hopefully gain some better social skills. At the shopwarming party in April (just as we were moving in) he had a great time. (note that playing with fire is normal for our group, and flea's cut on his cheek was from a bottlecap, nothing to do with Harry) May 18, 2007: Downtown Fullerton Then the crazy happened Around the 4th of July I was having dinner at Grandma's in Whittier. I got a call from Harry at about 6pm, but I didn't take it. Then 5 minutes later I got another, and another. I couldn't answer them because I was busy evicting my tweaker uncle from Grandma's house. After that all got resolved around 8pm I listened to the voice mails. Most were just hangups, but these two I saved: (20070604_voicemails.mov 116MB) 8:56pm: "hey, I guess you guys got back together or something, I don't know, that's the only explanation. You promised to be a perfect gentleman and whatever. and um, you know. Why can't you tell the truth of the situation here? What's wrong with you guys that... you know... make people guess whatever what's going on" [hang up] 9:07pm: [distorted] I don't even know who I said what to. If you can't tell me where things are at? [hang up] So I immediately got ahold of Arclight and Flea. Harry had been calling Flea, me, Flea, Arclight, Flea, me, Flea... in a loop, but no one picked up. Flea got about 20 calls, I got about 6, Arclight got about 4. Most of the messages were incoherent and we had no idea what was going on. We contacted Arclight's cousin who is a mental health worker and she agreed to call Harry. By that time Harry was normal though, so she said he was just fine. Over the next few weeks we were able to piece together what had happened. Here's our best guess: Harry talked to a girl at the ShopWarming party. She touched him on the hand, in a friendly gesture. Later on, he got it into his head that that touch meant that they were dating. He thought that Flea, myself, and the rest of us were conspiring to keep them apart. He kept demanding her contact info. We verified with her that she had no contact with him, she barely even remembered who he was. Flea told him over the phone that he needs to back off, that she doesn't want to talk to him, and that we were definately not giving him her info. We made the decision that we didn't want someone so unstable to be around us. So we informed Harry that he could no longer be part of the shop or our group. So on Saturday he was going to stop by to pick up some of his equipment that he had there. At around noon he comes screeching into the parking lot, jumps out, and goes to his trunk. We thought he was going for a gun but fortunately he didn't pull anything out. He got his stuff, announced "I'm on Paxil!", and put his stuff into his trunk. As he drove off we could hear his tires screeching around every corner. After that we didn't hear much from Harry. We ran into him at Toorcon in 2008, but we didn't talk to him and he didn't talk to us. October 22, 2009 (Thursday): Harry gets arrested At 2:07am Harry got arrested in Claremont for "M PC602(M) Trespass by driving on Private Property". He was released at 3:15am on a $500 bond. October 27, 2009 (Tuesday): Calls a friend and leaves a series of messages that don't make any sense. November 6, 2009 (Friday): Harry attacks someone At the LA2600 meet at Denny's, Harry showed up out of the blue and started "windmill attacking" a friend. The police were called and charges are pending for battery. November 9, 2009 (Monday) Calls a friend and leaves a series of messages that don't make any sense. Drives to New Mexico for a surprise visit to a friend, friend calls the police after telling Harry to leave. November 14, 2009 (Saturday): Harry drives through a house Early Saturday morning (my first photo is at 7:30) Kim called me and said "harry crashed his car into the house, the police are here". So I jumped out of bed and tore over there. Here's the sequence of events as best I can reconstruct them: Harry gets to the house and decides it's a good idea to ram the garage, he's approaching from the north. His car hits the Bronco (parked on the right spot, left spot is empty) and bounces off, only leaving a mark on the bronco's tire. He collides with the closed garage door right by the left wall. The car shears off the gas line against the left wall and damages a water pipe leading to the water heater. (tire marks on wall too) He only stops when the gun cabinet braced against the concrete stairs holds up. Filing cabinet destroyed, then damaged secured box, then the big gun cabinet sheared off the wall. There are also tire marks on the floor where he stopped. Nearly the entire car is inside the garage at this point. He backs out onto the street. He decides it's now a good idea to try to drive his car through the big window in the front room. So he backs out to the main street. He drives straight over the curb (didn't flatten the tires though, took a chip out of the concrete) and onto the grass. He either stops just before the brick wall, or hits the brick wall. The tire tracks don't show the brakes locked up, but there's also no damage to the wall. The tires marks go right up to the brick though. He backs up about 10 feet (still on the grass) According to one witness, he then got out and started pacing by his car Kim gets outside and asks what's wrong, thinking he may be hurt or drunk. Harry states "There's a dangerous man outside" and points with his finger to his chest. Then lots of cops showed up. When I got there it was about 5 cop cars, then three fire trucks (due to the gas leak), then the gas company to shut off the main. Harry gets arrested on a 72h hold for 5150 (crazy). After everyone left Kim and I got the garage door closed and secured.
