Day 2 - December 20, 2009

Jalama Beach to Big Sur - 182 mi

Got going around 8:30, headed up the 1.

Tried to visit the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, but their gate is right at the bay, many miles away from the plant. They also own 750 acres around it, and it's in a canyon, so no one can even get close to the place.

Stopped at the Morro Bay nature center which is on a hill which had a great view of the bay and the giant rock near the harbor. There's a 755 foot tall dome shaped rock in the harbor.

Salmon Creek waterfalls are great! A 120 foot drop an easy walk from the 101. The hike to the top is steep and difficult though. There are house sized rocks that have fallen down the hill which gave a neat Lord of the Rings feeling.

Big Sur campground wanted $35 for their cheapest camp site! Fortunately, about a mile farther there's a private campground. I'm the only one here, literally right on the river, and it was $20.

The stars came out a bit at night for some great photos.
