Day 4 - December 22, 2009
Palo Alto to Berkeley - 88 mi
Got to the Tech Museum too early, so I walked around downton San Jose and came across the Adobe building. It's big! I noticed that all their room number signs in the hall have the "turning page" effect like their icons.
At 9am I was the first person into the Tech Museum of Innovation. I went through everything pretty quickly, the museum is geared toward kids. I was the only visitor until just before I left at 9:45.
Just up the road is the Intel Museum. It's free and they had some great old chips from Intel's history.
Next was the Ames Museum, the description on the NASA site says it's cool, but I was disappointed. There were some great photos, and a moon rock, but I couldn't find the physical mars relief globe, and the "immersive theater" wasn't immersive, nor impressive.
Right around the corner is Google, so I headed there. Just before I got there I saw a street view car! What are the odds? Maybe Google uses them as campus security?
Then up to San Francisco, the day was totally clear after the nights rains, so I went up to Sutro Tower and took a panorama of the city.
Just down the hill is cragislist's HQ. Just a small sign on a small street.
Then down to NoiseBridge, unfotunately there wasn't anyone there.
Then on to the Mythbusters M5 Industries building. It was all closed up, as expected.
Then into the horrible traffic. Trying to go the few miles from M5 to Treasure Island was frustrating. But finally got there and got some photos of the new bay bridge.
Across the bridge to Oakland, then up to Berkeley. Tried to get to the Bevatron, but the whole National Lab area is closed off.
Made it to the Berkeley Pier just after sunset, walked the 3/4 mile out to the end in the cold stiff wind, but got some great photos.
